P2: Six Short Story Ideas

Six Initial Short Story Ideas


Psychological Thriller
There is rumour of a nuclear explosion and 3 teenagers are trapped inside a room. They are left doubting the evidence and assessing the risk of escaping. For a while the internet can be accessed to keep them updated but when it cuts off, the only hope they have is the small window at he top of the room where the 3 characters sit underneath praying to see birds flying overhead to let them know the Earth's air is safe to breath. Sirens and explosion haunt them but no proof of civilization is present leaving them afraid to exit the room and struggling to survive.

Psychological Thriller
A girl with post traumatic stress leaves her home and walk through town to visit her Councillor. Each person who reaches for their pocket is lifting out a knife, each person with a backpack on is an explosion waiting for the right time, each loud screech of cars are sirens reminding her of that one fateful night. Even when the world is calm, a black shadow appears in her peripheral vision to haunt her happiness and keep her on her toes in the safest environments. As she reaches her faceless Councillor, she recalls her day at school and the two bells that rang depicting how she anxiously awaits the sixth bell to ring and the shooting to commence. As the flashback grows abstract, it transitions

Psychological Thriller
A girl wakes up to a videotape at the end of her bed with a label on it saying 'watch me as soon as you wake up. Love, Dad'. She plays the video and is told she was in a car accident which resulted in her spending months in hospital, struggling with brain damages. She begins to cry as the video plays on  revealing her short term memory was damaged leaving her with Amnesia. After trying to get her around what she's seen, she leaves her room and is greeted by her Dad who has prepared breakfast. He answers many of her questions and reveals the accident was 5 years ago, making her 17, before introducing her to the diary she writes in each day. As she reads through, she musts all her focus on trying to remember everything and in a sudden moment, she thinks she remembers everything. She runs up to her Dad who looks less than surprised but nevertheless hugs her and tells her how amazing this is. They begin to talk about all the exciting trips they can go on know she remembers everything and how she can return to school. Night falls and her father puts her to bed, kissing her on the head as  he leaves. The screens grows dark and as the sun rises again, the girl is once again greeted, in confusion, with the videotape. She remembers nothing.

Psychological Thriller/Horror
A girl is introduced to a therapist who helps her relieve her traumatic experience in order to help identify her kidnapper by doing EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). The viewer is taken to a flashback where, from the girls perspective, a man comes up behind her on a dark street at night and puts his hands over her mouth. She snaps out of the therapy, screaming but the therapist reassures her and explains how important this is. The EMDR begins again and the girl wakes up in a small room and as footsteps grown louder, the visuals become abstract until the man enters and a scar on his face is revealed. Her visuals begins to fade into black and he comes towards her and the viewer anticipates her snapping out of the therapy. However, when she opens her eyes, she awakens in the same small room with chalk tally marks covering the wall. She was never in therapy: she never escaped.

Psychological Thriller
A boy is walking in the woods and quickly tension builds as voices whisper quietly in the background and he feels and sees explainable things happening. As he begins to run, all the eerie surroundings grow in volume and pace. Signs keep appearing urging him to 'kill him' and as he picks up a knife he finds laying beneath a tree. From here, there is a transition to a worried Dad on the phone to the police explaining the lengthened disappearance of his schizophrenic son. As the viewer begins to question if anything the boy has seen is real, a shot of the boy holding a knife up to his friend switches between the perspective of the boy and the victim who can't hear the voices. The boys phone rings and all voices mute. When the camera returns from the Dad to the boy, the knife is replaced by a stick and there is no one there.

Horror
In a black and white world set after in the Victorian era a young girl in playing outside in her garden. She can she seen smiling a playing with her toys when she notices a women at her gate. The woman is wearing all black with pale skin but she smiles at the girl and signals her over. The girl stands over up and picks up her doll reluctantly and moves closer to the gate as the women compliments her doll and asks if she can look. As she puts her hand out, the girl takes a step back but the women leans over a takes the doll as she screams. The woman apologies and pleads the girl to be quiet and she obeys. She whispers something to the doll and hands it back before walking away. The girl runs inside and drops the doll on its head. At that moment, she covers her head with her hands and when she releases it, there is a bruise. She runs to her dad and he comforts her but when she returns the doll is gone. After a moment of silence, she begins to scream and falls on the floor, dead.
