Adverts that caught my eye:
TV Advert:
This advert stands out to me due to the adorable and innocent child hoping to buy a birthday present for her Mum whilst trying to pay with some of her own little toys. The endearing message is to show the kindness of people, as the shop keeping accepts buttons instead of money, and the overwhelming love a child has for her mother. This is likely to appeal to a female audience due to the heart warming and emotional response which is created. The age range of this target audience is quite large, perhaps from older teens to a more elderly audience.
Magazine Advert:
The Apple AirPods advert appealed to due to the futuristic effect, created through the man floating, combined with the old fashioned black and white filter, resulting in a highly simplistic, emphasised with the modern but slick white text and logo, which is highly effective. The message of this advert is to perhaps emphasise the surround sound quality of the product which makes the consumer feel like they're in their own world, distanced from their day to day problems. This advert is likely to target a young to mid age range, perhaps 16-35 due to the sleek and modern tone combined with the limited amount of text which emphasises the on trend reputation of the brand; not needing to be explained.
Social Media Advert:
The 'Wolfie Cindy ' Oh Polly collection advert was posted on of their official Instagram social media, both on their story and on IGTV temporarily. The advert appeals to me due to the aesthetics of the location, likely to inspire people to buy the clothes through being able to see how and where they could be worn first hand. The slow motion shots coupled with the up-beat, modern music creates a sleek and empowering motion within the video, creating a message of loving your body and your clothes. Along with this, the presence of a social media influencer acts as a role model for consumers to look up to be inspired by. The target audience for this advert is, therefore, young females, between the ages of 16 and 26.
Radio Advert:
The Paddington Marmite radio advert caught my attention due to the use of the famous character which is likely to create a connection between the audience and the product. Due to the universal love of the bear, the audience have loyalties to him and everything he stands for which will engage them in the advert. The message of the advert is that Marmite is for the whole family and will reinforce personal relationships due to the family on a road trip together on the advert. Due to this, the target audience for this radio advert is very wide as, due to the modern release of the Paddington Bear film which means young listeners will be engaged along with parental aged people due to the traditional Paddington series.
Which traditional form of media is appropriate for advertising my media product?
Computer Games
Creating a computer game based on a TV Show is likely to be successful if the show is an action as it would lead to a interesting play and engaging content. The already established nature of the TV show, would increase sales for the video game whilst the new attention from the video game would increase interest in the TV show. Although Duplicity is an action filled drama, due to the more mature target audience, this method would like be ineffective.
Newspapers
Having an article or advertisement in Newspapers about a media product can be used as a traditional form of advertising to inform consumers of new tv shows and media products.
Although the BBC has a wide range for it's target audience, including an older audience, BBC3, where Duplicity would be broadcasted, has a target audience of 15-25 year olds who are less likely to be inclined to buy a newspaper. This is due to technological advancements which allow the newer generation to easily access news on their phone and also due to the fact that this age range is likely to be more engaged by adverts though other, more modern forms of media. Due to this, newspapers would be an inappropriate way to advertise for Duplicity.
Music
Music videos are utilised to promote new music and their amount of streams can even lend itself to helping songs getting into the Top 40 whilst would create a large amount of awareness for the song and lead to it's success.
A soundtrack/ album release could be used as a form of advertisement to promote a media product. Whilst this likely to be very beneficial for a movie or series with a more light hearted tone, for a crime drama such as Duplicity, the soundtrack would consist mostly be of tension building music over sing-a-long songs so wouldn't be appropriate.
Magazines
A magazine such as TV times would be a very useful way to advertise TV shows for the older generation who are likely to still buy physical copies however, for the younger target audience of Duplicity, the app version of the magazine would create more attraction due to the convenience of its use. Along with this, due to the use of the TV guide with companies such as SKY and VirginMedia, the need for buying a magazine for a younger audience member is less probable.
Television/Film
TV Adverts are used to promote different media products to a direct demographic of a target audience through broadcasting the advert at a specific time and between two specific shows which relate to the product being promoted. This would be a very effective way to market Duplicity as it would engage the target audience without having to even leave the BBC3 channel. Similarly, TV and film could be used to market through creating a film version of the drama or a spin off TV show. Through doing this, both media products would promote each other and cause ore overall attraction. Although this would be a very beneficial form of advertising, this would be very expensive and something that would be done when the show has already been establishes rather than in its initial stages of being introduced..
Billboards
In creating a billboard, a media product will be able to be promoted on a large scale without having to target a specific target market. This will create wide-scale promotion if it was done in a big city and, it it was cleverly done or eye catching, could lead to viral marketing through pedestrians posting pictures of it on social media. This would be a highly beneficial method of advertising for Duplicity as it could create a lot of attraction, perhaps even from unlikely audience members.
Radio
Promoting Duplicity on the radio could be a very effective method due to the age range of the target audience, 15-25, of which the majority will be able to drive and have the radio on in the background. Similarly, the wide-scale popularity of the radio would enable large amounts of potential audience members to be reached, creating a lot of attraction for the TV show.
