Unit 3: P5 - Post Production

EDITING
I edited the film in Final Cut Pro X and began the process by organising the footage in folders of different scenes and a folder called 'bad shots' so i didn't have to scroll through footage that wasn't usable during the editing process.
From here, i placed the footage onto the timeline in linear order and used the Blade and Razor tool to cut between shots to create a narrative from many perspectives.

After this, i needed to ensure the colour for all the clips match each other and were balanced correctly. In some cases, i could simply use the Balance Colour effect. However, in more difficult clips, i had to adjust the colours and exposure to ensure it matched the others. Not only did i want the brightness in all clips to be the same, but i wanted to ensure the clips didn't have red undertones. To do this, i reduced the red in the clip and added the 'Cold Steal' effect which created a more tense and cold look to the scene..

Subsequently, I added graphics to the opening scene to create the titles. The font reflects the eerie mood of the film whilst the colour yellow represents the subject of mental health. In order to create unease, i used the keying effect to manipulate a glitch on screen.

Finally,  I added the audio which included diegetic and non-diegetic sound.

DIALOGUE
To improve the sound of the kidanpper voice over, i exported the file to Logic and ran it through some effects, including EQ and Expander. This boosted the strongest sound away from the noise floor, expanding the waveform.

I added this to the timeline in scene 2 after muting the on screen videos as the sound wasn't of a high enough quality to understand the speech. The kidnapper's mouth can't be seen so matching the sound to his mouth movement wasn't an issue.

BACKING TRACK

In order to build tension i layered this backing track along with sound effects from garage band of footsteps and empty rooms.
